Album Cover Contest

as a great big "thank you" to everyone who has either stuck with us through the years or just recently jumped on the bandwagon, PG is holding an Album Cover Contest.
The winner will have their picture proudly displayed on our newest record due out later this year.

the rules:

2)photographs only. no drawings. i don't have any reason for this, it's just the way it's gonna be.

New Record

It's a very exciting time for PG right now. we've just started recording our 3rd album, When I Fall, at The Cutting Room, in NYC.
So far we've began tracking 9 new songs including the title track, Reload and Lonely Little Girl. E-Beats, Steve B, Jay and myself played all of the songs live in the studio in order to capture the energy of our live shows. Thanks to Dave Crafa-owner, Tom Gardner-engineer and the rest of their amazingly professional and talented staff, the session went off without a hitch. It was a fantastic experience and we're looking forward to doing it again some day!

We'll be working hard on the rest of the album throughout April and May, so we'll be sure to keep you posted on our progress.

The mighty Peculiar Gentlemen return to the island of Manhattan on FRIDAY SEPT. 24th for their first ever show at The Studio in Webster Hall.

In a recent interview with the band for Immabottalie Magazine keyboardist E-Beats said, "this show is gonna be so good, i wish that i could step outside myself, buy a ticket and watch the show" while guitar player Willy Jive added, "And How!! we've been working on some new things that will literally knock your socks off...so leave your nice socks at home."

when your idols come to town, BE THERE!

this month i had the honor of being in the presence of 3 not only my favorite performers but 3 of the most influential musicians in music history.

it started with Toots and the Maytalls at B.B. Kings. Toots, at 64 years old still has the energy of a teenager. he had the crowd dancing and singing along from the beginning to the end. with a voice that sounds better than ever he delivered all the hits including Pressure Drop, Monkey Man and Funky Kingston.

then again at B.B. Kings i had the pleasure of watching the legendary Chuck Berry, 84. although he forgot some lyrics and his solos strayed out of key Chuck Berry is still the greatest! he still managed to squeeze out a few of his signature moves and he still drives the ladies crazy. Chuck Berry deserves a standing ovation.

finally, at Summer Stage in Central Park, i saw Gil Scott-Heron, 61. Not only did he show up but he arrived on time! as we lay in the sweltering heat, trying to stay hydrated, Gil soothed us with his song and inspired us with his
words. he even brought out Common to add some extra texture.

ONE-TRUCK.ORG is a 501c3 pending disaster relief organization dedicated to providing mid and long-term housing solutions for the displaced members of the Cite Soleil community in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. ONE-TRUCK.ORG is currently operating on the ground at Bois Neuf field in Cite Soleil in partnership with a local non-profit children’s program, L’Atletique D’Haiti (LADH).
ONE-TRUCK.ORG is striving to create a pilot housing program for 500 individuals camped on the LADH property. As part of their ongoing work here they are supporting Bobby Duvall and his LADH team to continue their athletic and education programs for over 800 children.

whats happenin' all you crazy kids!

well PG has been keeping pretty busy so far this year, with shows at Uncle Mike's, Spike Hill, and Galapagos, and we have lots of exciting things on the way.

first off E-Beats and I have started to flex our Dj'ing muscles with a resident DJ set at the Keg and Lantern over in Greenpoint Brooklyn. on the second Saturday of every single month from 10pm to 3am, we will be not only DJing the "greatest mix of music you could ever imagine", but we will also be hanging out, having drinks, telling jokes, making friends and dancing and dancing and dancing! you might want to stop by.

our next set is Feb. 13th

so remember the PG3's? remember how one of them disappeared and now there are only 2? well the reason we lost one (Leslie) is so she could pursue her solo career. and if you're wondering if there are any hard feelings...no there isn't. PG will be playing at her record release party on Thursday, March 4th at Arlene's Grocery. it's gonna be a super fun show and we're expecting all of our friends to be there!

Then we head back to Brooklyn on March 16th where we will be playing the Knitting Factory with a splendid band called Low Water. oh boy, don't forget your dancing shoes for this show!

now here's a secret...if you've been to any recent shows you may have noticed a few new songs in our set...well there are more to come...and maybe even a new record...but shhh its a secret don't go spreading any rumors!

Hello friends!

We are shooting a music video for the band Peculiar Gentlemen and are in need of your presence.

There is a “party scene” that needs to have people dancing around or just hanging out in the background. The video is suppose to take place in the 1940's, so to keep this as convincing as possible, we request you try to bring a costume. It's a fun costume and will make for a fun time, we really hope you can make it.

Here are the details:

Men - Cotton pants or overalls, button down collar shirt, vests, bow tie or regular tie, suspenders, old style hats.

Women - Long dresses, floral patters, skirts above the waist with tucked in button down blouse. Shoes with short white socks. Hair tied up.

When: Saturday, August 29th, 5:00pm.

PG co-founder "Sweet" Willy Jive will be bar tending, while PG co-founder E-Beats will be DJing. this months theme is SONGS ABOUT WOMEN, so make a mix CD, bring it to B-Side, drop it in the bin, and before you leave, take a new mix CD home with you! it's simple and fun. to put our own twist on this months event, PG will be giving out (for free) to the first 20 takers, a special mix CD of songs that inspired our latest record, THE DIFFERENCE. if that's not enough, all PG merchandise will be available for purchase.

THE DIFFERENCE is here! we have to thank every one again for coming to the party on friday. we certainly had the most amazing crowd i've ever seen. the performances by BADMAN, SHE KEEPS BEES and DEMANDER, were some of the best i've ever seen. everyone had a blast, thank you all so much for being a part of it. also a big thank you to those who bought the new record. we hope you're enjoying it.

time has come

after 3 years, 11 months, 38 days, and way too many hours to count, Peculiar Gentlemen are releasing their second album. it is titled, "The Difference", has 14 brand new tracks, and features a variety of different musical genres (as only peculiar gentlemen can do).

our "Unofficial Record Release Party" will be on Friday, February 27th at Southpaw in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Doors open at 8pm and there is a $10 cover.

the first band of the night is Badman. a very dark, blues, rock band, from Rhode Island. they are also featured musicians on our forthcoming record.

the next band will be She Keeps Bees. a blues, rock duet from Brooklyn. She Keeps Bees' lead singer Jessica Larabee, was a featured performer on our first record, "Full Paw Special", and will also be featured on this one. thank you Jess!

the third band will be Demander. a super fun rock band from New York. PG's frontman/piano player, E-Beats has been a guest performer on a few of Demander's newest singles.

and then there is us! we will be performing a very special set, with very special guests, for a very special audience, that will include, most importantly, YOU!

and let's not forget this will be the first time that you will be able to purchase the brand new Peculiar Gentlemen record, "The Difference".

hello my friends,

i guess this is what meteorologist's call "the calm before the storm." everything is seemingly pretty quiet in our worlds. just putting the finishing touches on the new record. our unofficial record release party will be on friday, february 27th at southpaw in park slope, brooklyn. we are planning (as you could imagine) an incredible show, with incredible bands. more on that soon.

we will have Seth Johnson of Northern State taking over for drums for a few months, while Steve Bryant is on tour with another project.

we are also creating a bit of a presence on youtube. we have a few clips up right now and a few more on the way. please check them out. your comments are always encouraged.

winter is upon us. on sat. dec. 20th at 9pm, we will perform the final installment of our seasonal residency at Jalopy (315 Colombia St. Red Hook, BK) with the infamous Sugar Shack Burlesque Troop. we are readying a very intimate showcase of acoustic music to warm you up. the evening will consist of lots of hugs, whiskey, and christmas sweaters. hope to see you there.

also, we have finally confirmed that our sophomore record, "the difference", will be released and available in early 2009. i will not reveal any dates yet, so not to upset anyone if things get changed.

i predict that 2009 will be the year of PECULIAR GENTLEMEN. the world will see and hear a lot of us, so have an extra pair of dancing shoes ready for when we come to your town and prepare to get loved right in your face!

I think it may be time for me to give a bit of insight on the concept behind the music of Peculiar Gentlemen. one of the hardest things for us to do is describe what we sound like. we've been labeled as "unclassifiable" and "genre defying", and we are exactly that. the difficult thing is putting a label on the "style" of music we play. you see, we are not innovators in the sense that we've created a new type of musical sound, but that we've created an atmosphere in which we can incorporate every and any existing style. similar to bands like Ween or an artist like Beck, we pride ourselves on our versatility.

it makes sense if you think about it. in a world where major labels are crumbling, where going to the record store isn't necessary, and even where buying an entire album isn't the norm, music changes. if any type of music you desire is available at the click of a button and there's probably only a song or two that you'll actually enjoy by a particular artist, why not try Peculiar Gentlemen? we give it all to you. Pop, rock, soul, R&B, reggae, hip-hop, country, all in one package. we can be tongue-in-cheek or dead serious. there's something for everyone and it's always fun. if you still aren't sold, come to a show. you may not love it all, but there's something in it you too!

we will be performing next at Jalopy in Red Hook, Brooklyn on Dec. 20th with the Sugarshack Burlesque for a special winter show.

the greatest band you've never heard of

what makes a Peculiar Gentlemen? where do they come from? where do they hang out? can i be one?

I've loved their music. I have seen them perform. I have spent time in each of their homes. I have heard their story. Now I am ready to tell all.

This is a story of friendship, and a story of an adventure. Join me on an expedition into the lives of 4 men and 3 women, how they met, and how they became masters of their craft and changed the world of music forever.

CHAPTER 1

in the early naughts, two men stood in a room together for the first time. two men of extraordinary wit and imagination. at the time it was too soon to know their full capabilities, too soon to know the depth of the path which lay before them. heck, they didn't even know there was a path in front of them. all they knew was the music. there weren't words to be spoken. only gestures to be made. they were hearing the same song. all they had to do was let it out.

"sweet" willy jive, was raised on the front porch. an observer, a listener. he taught himself guitar. he studied the songs from his father's era, and steadily looked backward to his grandfather's and great grandfather's music. he perfected it. made it his own. it came naturally. he learned to sing. he sang to the masses. he wore his heart on his sleeve. quiet, introspective, but always armed with a quip or a joke because hey, you never know.

e-beats on the other hand had his own special charm. a child of an architect, he learned to build with sound. he saw the future. he memorized it, manipulated it and hung it on the shelf. ever the innovator, he blurred the lines of dreams and reality by creating "revery bridges", a means to transport sound from ones subconscious dream state into the waking world. don't believe me? i got the tapes to prove it!

needless to say the two young men hit it off. they formed a band, hit the road and picked up a few friends along the way.

the first to hitch a ride on the Beast* was Nailah Daaj, a soul singer from rural florida. She had heard rumors of the duo, booked a one way plane ticket to New York City, and camped out in front of the boys' studio. Willy and E were awoken the next morning by a voice rising up from the street below which pierced the dense city air. the song they heard was of an old soul reflecting on summers past, becoming engulfed with nostalgia, and finally seeing through the eyes of the children whom she was surrounded by. talk about an audition. She was hired immediately.

the next to touch the hearts of the gentlemen was MC Sara Goose. An old friend whose talents were nearly overlooked. one night, determined to make her presence known, Goose made her way into one of the bands performances, ducked past security, jumped up on stage, grabbed a mic during an instrumental break, and began to freestyle about the origins of her friendship with Willy and E. After the number was over Willy leaned over to Goose and said, "How come you never told me you could rap?" She just smiled and said, " You never asked."

Now they were four.

A few months later, while driving east on I-84 the troop spotted a lone hitchhiker on the roadside. always willing to lend a helping hand, The Beast opened its doors to one Leslie DiNicola. she traveled light. they could tell she'd been drinking and she had the bottle to prove it. after serenading her new acquaintances with a few old time country ballads, the boys knew they had found the last of their back-up singers. the PG 3's were born.

now all they needed was a rhythm section.

Luca Caius Bartoccolli was a local guitar maker. An italian immigrant, still new to american life. he spoke crudely and was always ready to fight. his favorite topics were women and america. both of which he loved to hate. PG found him during a chance meeting at the bands local watering hole. After a long night of debauchery, it was revealed that Luca could play the bass. Willy, who was way beyond the point of rational thought asked, "You wanna be in our band?" Luca raised one eyebrow, smirked and replied, "you know, you're gonna wanna." not one of the groups finest moments, but a happy accident none the less.

Soon after on an autumn afternoon, E-Beats went to pay his grandmother a visit at her retirement home. A quaint establishment, tucked away in a suburban new york town. After lunch E escorted his granny to the gazebo in the courtyard where a local jazz band had volunteered to play. E, always susceptive to syncopation, pricked up his ears. Absorbed in the poly-rhythmic beats and seamlessly versatile stylings of the bands drummer, E-Beats knew who he was listening to. He had introduced himself as Steve Bryant, but E's finely tuned ears could not be fooled. He was sure it was Cru-Jones, the ghost, the enigma, the legend. Cru finally came around and revealed his true identity after realizing E-Beats' astute knowledge and modesty. Cru-Jones had heard of Peculiar Gentlemen before and was more than willing to take part in what would soon become the experience of a lifetime.

we have 3 interesting events happening this month. the first will be a DJ set at Southpaw out in brooklyn on Sat. Nov. 22. E-Beats and "Sweet" Willy Jive will be playing some of their finest selections of rare Soul, R&B, Funk, Hip Hop and Rock & Roll from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's!

Second, on Sun. Nov. 23, Leslie DiNicola, star member of the PG 3's, will perform music from her solo project at Spike Hill in Brooklyn. Her band will include many, if not all, members of Peculiar Gentlemen. She has written some beautiful songs, two of which are collaborative efforts with "Sweet" Willy Jive.

Lastly, on Nov. 29, Peculiar Gentlemen will be performing at Rehab in Manhattan. This will be a birthday celebration for MC Sara "Goose", another star member of the PG 3's. Sharing the bill will be our close friends Smash Mechanics and Nite Club. If you have ever been to one of Gooses' parties before then you know you're in for an amazing event overflowing with drinks, dancing and great music.

Providence, RI oct. 31

in order to keep everyone's identity anonymous, i will refer to everyone as their Halloween costume.

within the first 5 mins. of leaving the bronx, Mr. Body's bowels had acted up. we made a quick pit stop and were on our way once again.

we arrive in RI and due to Col. Mustards inexperience using GPS, we had to make a few illegal u-turns and went the wrong way down some one way streets. we survived.

thanks to the cat burglar we got two joining rooms at the Hilton. we immediately start on the wiskey.

show at AS220. Great show, all of the clue characters at the top of their game. Great job everyone...so far.

Mr. Body mistakes some dudes for girls. it was halloween. could have happened to anyone. Magnum P.I. sends Col. Mustard and Little Man on a secret mission to recover whatever is in the yellow bin. a twelve pack of beer. amazing.

after party back at the rooms.

Professor Plum has the great idea to shotgun a beer. does it wrong and pukes in a bath tub, out of his nose.

second bathroom, Plum falls into beer tub, while puling himself out gets fingers slammed in door.

Little Man in same bathroom, laughs so hard he falls out of bathroom, cat burglar's ass falls on L.M.'s head leaving his mind in a questionable state.

Mr. Body smokes a cigarette in one of the rooms. Bad move. Cat Burglar yells at everyone.

Cat Burglar crawls into a closet. "someone made me shotgun a beer and then i lost my mind"

sorry C.B. my bad.

Plum locks C.B., a Kitten and a Geisha into a room, and protects them from the zombies that used to be our friends. (and themselves)

Mrs. Scarlet begins a search party for Little Man. He is found a few hours later at a not so near- by IHOP with Magnum P.I. Eat some pancakes and everything will be forgiven.

the next day.

Col. Mustard wakes up with a black eye. Can't prove anything but has good reason to believe it was Mr. Body.

Mr. Body wakes up with a bruised torso. Hmmm.

time to leave. we pack up The Beast, pick up Skeleton Man, and we're off! or are we?

can't get the beast out of the lot because there's no body working in the toll booth. we proceed behind the car in front. Bar hits top of van. valet parking people come out from everywhere yelling at us. "you could potentially damage your vehicle driving like that! Your supposed to give us your ticket!"

Col. Mustard, "here's my ticket. do you want it?"

Valet, "No."

Free parking for us.

the beginning

hello internet! this marks the first of, hopefully many peculiar gentlemen blogs.

for starters, i intend on keeping everyone up to date on all of the tour dates, new music, drama, secrets, and progress of our band.....Peculiar Gentlemen!

we just returned from our first show in the lovely city of Boston. With a little help from our friends in the band Badman, and all of our friends and family who live there, the show was very well received. we hope and intend to return as soon as we can.

this week we are back in our home town New York, New York for a gig at the Delancey (168 Delancey btwn clinton and attorney) on Oct. 30 8:00pm for THE ZOMBIE PROM. it should be fun. then we're right back on the road and heading straight for Providence, RI, once again with Badman, for our Halloween Bash at AS220.

in other news, our new album The Difference, follow up to our debut record 2005's Full Paw Special, is finished and as soon as we can find the perfect means to release it....we'll release it. in the mean time, we have been performing material from the new record while still dishing out classics like I Don't Want You To Be Sad, Nearly Lost, and Don't U Wanna?
